Using pallet trucks on loading bays.
Although this operation strictly speaking comes under the heading of specific job training it is usual to cover this on pallet truck courses as they are used in these areas extensively.
Operators should take the same precautions as drivers of counterbalanced trucks which are:
- Ensure that lorry cannot be moved
- Lorry wheels chocked
- Lorry engine stopped
- Lorry keys removed
- Driver should be out of his cab
It is also important to ensure that the dock leveling plate is firmly secured. It is not unknown for pallet trucks to be driven off the edge of loading bays!
