Exception to gradient rules

On the previous slide it was stated that an unladen truck should be driven with its forks pointing down the slope but there are exceptions to this rule. In this picture the operator is quite correctly taking a load up the slope in order to deposit it in the lorry. Having got rid of his load it is now a physical impossibility to turn the truck around in order to come down the slope forks first and in any case, trucks should not be turned across a slope. The answer to this problem is to break the rule and reverse down but recognise that the brakes don't work so well when traveling in this direction and adjust the speed of the truck to suit.
