Forks unladen travel position - counterbalanced forklift

This picture shows the unladen traveling position for the forks. The heel of the forks should be approximately 10 to 15 cm or 4 to 6 inches above the floor, (lower for reach trucks), and the fork should then be tilted back.

The rear tilt is partly to prevent the forks digging into obstructions and bringing the truck to a sudden halt and partly to avoid hitting a pedestrians ankle. Hitting someone on the leg of course should be avoided but at least there are only two bones to break in this area!
