Checking the battery and topping up
The top of the battery should be clean and free from debris or electrolyte spillage. Only use non metallic items to assist in topping up e.g. plastic funnel etc.
Make sure that battery cables cannot get trapped under the lid.
Ensure that correct personal protective equipment is used, eye protection, neoprene gloves and suitable overalls.
The battery charging area should be clearly defined and marked and emergency eye wash facilities provided nearby.
Note: Some pallet trucks have the facility to change batteries so that one can be on charge whilst the other is being used. Make sure you are familiar with and trained to use the equipment involved.
