There are many human activities that can cause muscular skeletal problems. Although the obvious ones are poor lifting techniques, others can also cause problems. These include:
- Lowering. It takes the same effort to lower an object as it does to pick it up!
- Pushing things such as trolleys specially on rough floors
- Pulling things. It's considered better to pull than to push but this is not always possible
- Twisting the torso. Repeated twisting can wear out the disks between the vertebrae
- Rolling an object such as an oil drum. Whilst it's obviously better than direct lifting it can still cause problems
- Moving and dragging. These activities can cause problems due to friction with the ground making the task difficult
