manual handling tasks - movement of loads

movement of loads

When considering the manual handling task, all relevant factors should be considered. For example there may be a particular handling technique that requires a very high muscular effort which a "normal" person may not be capable of producing. This naturally leads on to the question of equipment such as a sack trolley shown here.

When thinking about manual handling equipment it's tempting to think about huge expense. It's true that one can spend a fortune on equipment and anyone interested in the subject must have seen catalogues from companies selling manual handling equipment. The fact is that a problem may possibly be overcome by something very simple: a crowbar maybe?

There is also the possibility of changing the task around to reduce the risks or possibly even automating the task completely. Bear in mind that whatever solution is chosen it must be seen to be reasonably practical and supported by a risk assessment.
