Some jobs obviously are dependant upon the speed of some mechanised process such as product coming off the end of a conveyor. In these cases the effects of repetition become important to the manual handling task. It has been noted that the capacity reduction of the human body reduces with repetition. This is a pretty obvious statement as it can be readily seen that carrying one load a distance is a lot easier than carrying several load one after the other. The capacity reduction to be expected are:
- One movement a minute to one every two minutes = one third
- One movement a minute to six movements a minute = one half
- Six movements a minute to twelve movements a minute = two thirds
