Driving into the load. Precautions involved

pallet damage

Now the trainees should be taught how to enter the load and elevate it to the traveling position.

One of the big problems with pallet fingers is that there is no such thing as a standard pallet.

When the operator enters the load, quite often the pallet fingers protrude through and they may well damage the load behind.

marking the pallet fingers

Obviously this needs to be pointed out to the trainees. A common trick is to place markings on the pallet fingers, (tape or similar), which will indicate when the correct length of pallet fingers have entered the pallet. This is shown here.

The parking brake should be applied before lifting or lowering the load. This normally means having the handle vertical or horizontal.
